Sound, lighting and media systems on board the AIDAluna
The project: AIDAluna, the third of a series of club ships built by the Meyer shipyard in Papenburg for the Rostock-based AIDA Cruises line. Comprehensive stage and entertainment equipment guarantees the latest technical standards in entertainment.
The challenge: Amptown System Company installed a professional on-board sound reinforcement system in the main entertainment areas of the newest cruise ship in the AIDA fleet: in the Theatrium, on the pool deck, in the discotheque "Anytime Bar", in the main AIDA Bar, in the Kids Club, the casino and the Body & Soul area, for AIDA Radio and in many additional smaller areas. The Hamburg system company came up with technical solutions to a multitude of requirements for lighting, sound, system applications and integration of innovative on-board entertainment equipment.

The solution: The technical solutions for the two most important areas on board are summarised here: The Pool Deck is equipped with two Martin Audio line arrays each comprising 8 Martin Audio W8L loudspeakers and WS218X subwoofers. The line arrays, covered with corrosion-resistant mesh, are responsible for the greater part of the outdoor sound reinforcement and are so comprehensively equipped that even a live band can expect to find conditions on board equal to those of a professional concert stage.
In the Theatrium show centre, the pulsating heart of the ship, a comprehensive stage and entertainment PA system by Meyer Sound ensures that performances are presented to the latest technical standards. The show centre unites decks 9, 10 and 11 and their theatres, bars and shopping areas to form a central meeting place of more than 3,000 m². In the evening it becomes a well-attended professional stage. The location's design, open to the centre, with load-bearing columns and a visually striking glass and steel façade, presented ASC with a particular challenge when it came to installing the PA system specified.

To ensure the best possible listening experience all the way to the back rows, the system integrator positioned two line arrays, each with 12 Meyer Sound M1D loudspeakers and 2 Meyer Sound 700-HP subwoofers (sub-bass) to the left and right of the stage, with a further 18 Meyer Sound UPM-1P full range speakers as a delay. Front fill and surround sound is provided by 20 APG DS8 loudspeakers, while 2 APG MX4 loudspeakers to the left and right of the stage project the frontal amplification back into the stalls. So that the passengers in the corridors can also enjoy the sound, ASC installed 44 Meyer Sound MM-4 loudspeakers as a delay in the corridors around the Theatrium. The comprehensive sound system does perfect justice to a whole range of performance styles, from live acts, musical shows and DJ line-ups to classical vocal soloists and cabaret.
