Planning and installation of complete media engineering for the Salzgitter AG's Hotel am See (2008)
The project: Salzgitter AG is one of Europe's leading steel and technological corporations and is structured in five divisions - steel, trading, tubes, services and technology - under the umbrella of a management holding company. Salzgitter decided to convert and extend its own guesthouse, the lakeside Hotel am See in Lebenstedt, into a modern conference centre worthy of an international concern and also make it available to other businesses in the region.

The challenge: Having won the contract in competitive bidding, ASC faced the task of planning and implementing complete media and conference technology systems in all parts of the building, with lighting control an additional requirement over and above audio, video and control systems. Lead manager for the project was the Glückauf Wohnungsgesellschaft mbH, a subsidiary of Salzgitter AG.

The solution: One of the requirements was to devise a visual display solution for the new two-storey steel and glass event area with its total conference area of 1,800m². The answer was to incorporate what is currently the world's biggest plasma display into the wall. Its screen diagonal measures a staggering 2.6m.
Special table-top sockets enable all conference participants to use their own laptops. In the conference rooms on the upper storey with their flexible partitioning, beamers were suspended from the ceiling with a special lift. They project a 3m-broad image onto an electric screen. For the smaller rooms, ASC specified trolley-mounted Sony LCD monitors that can be plugged in to any one of the many floor boxes.
ASC developed a tailor-made product to a very high specification to meet the needs of press and multimedia events. It provides reporters with a direct simultaneous audio feed without causing interference in the audio system. Media and lighting systems can be controlled using specially programmed touchpanels that enable the settings for air conditioning, lighting, sun blinds and blackouts to be modified at will.

The reception area is equipped with an information terminal that is linked to the hotel reservations system. The digital signage solution chosen by ASC is a reservations control system manufactured by komma, tec. Events are displayed on a Sharp 65" LCD monitor. Linked to the control system are electronic "doorplates" - in this case 15"monitors - that display the event taking place in an individual room.
The whole installation was completed in just four weeks during the interior construction work for the building and coordinated with all the other sub-contractors involved. It passed its first practical test at the building's inaugural conference in December 2008.
