29.03.10 - Shipshape systems engineering from ASC accompanies AIDAblu maiden voyage

AIDAblu, the latest vessel to join the AIDA Cruises fleet, has set out on its maiden voyage to Palma de Mallorca equipped with comprehensive audio and media systems guaranteed
to keep passengers entertained and well informed. Christened by designer Jette Joop on 9 February 2010 in Hamburg, the new cruise ship (length 252m, beam 32.2m) is the fourth of six to be built for the Rostock-based cruise line by the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg and can accommodate more than 2,000 passengers on 14 decks.

Hamburg systems specialists Amptown System Company installed an elaborate on-board sound reinforcement system in the main entertainment areas of the ship - the Pool Deck, the Theatrium, the "Anytime Bar", several other bars and the new "Brauhaus" on Deck 10 - as well as numerous smaller systems on the various decks.

The Pool Deck, an important hub for passengers, is impressively equipped with two Martin Audio linear arrays, each comprising 8 Martin Audio W8L loudspeakers and WS218X subwoofers. The comprehensive system is the heart of sound reinforcement for the whole of the deck's leisure areas and also meets all requirements for large-scale open air parties and live performances by the show ensemble.

The Theatrium extends over three decks, linking their theatres, bars and shopping areas to form a striking meeting place. ASC installed a complex Meyer Sound audio system for shows and live performances. Two linear arrays, each with 12 Meyer Sound M1D loudspeakers and 2 Meyer Sound 700-HP subwoofers, are positioned to the left and right of the stage, with a further 18 Meyer Sound UPM-1P full range speakers as a delay. Front fill and surround sound is provided by 20 APG DS8 speakers, while 2 APG MX4 speakers to the left and right of the stage are responsible for frontal amplification.

Entertainment and important announcements also reach passengers strolling along the passageways and through the shopping areas thanks to 44 Meyer Sound MM-4 loudspeakers in the passageways around the Theatrium. The comprehensive sound system delivers top quality, whether for live acts, musical shows and DJ line-ups or classical vocal soloists, comedy and cabaret performances.
